The Impact of Floor Refinishing on Home Value in Atlanta, GA

November 14, 2024

Refinishing hardwood floors is one of the best investments a homeowner can make for their property. Read about the benefits, ROI, and more below.

Over time, even the most well-maintained floors will show signs of wear, such as scratches, dullness, and uneven surfaces. By opting for professional floor refinishing in Atlanta, GA, homeowners can restore their floors’ original beauty, enhance the overall appearance of their home, and even increase their market appeal.

Revitalize Your Home With Refinished Floors

Refinishing your hardwood floors can have a dramatic impact on your home’s overall appearance. Here’s how professional refinishing services revitalize your space:

  • Restores natural beauty and enhances style: Refinishing removes scratches, dents, and stains, bringing out the wood’s grain patterns and deep tones. It also allows you to change the color, giving you the flexibility to modernize your space or match your new design and decor.
  • Creates a polished and updated look: A fresh finish provides a smooth, even surface that adds warmth and sophistication to every room.
  • Brightens and opens up spaces: Refinished floors can reflect more light, making rooms feel larger, more inviting, and visually appealing.
  • Elevates home renovation projects: Refinishing should be a priority during home renovations, as it ties together your overall design while maintaining the charm and elegance of your hardwood floors.

The Financial Benefits of Refinishing Your Floors Before Selling

Refinishing your floors is a smart financial investment if you plan to sell your home. According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR) 2022 Remodeling Impact Report, hardwood floor refinishing has an impressive ROI of 147%.1 This means that for every $3,000 you spend on refinishing, you could add approximately $4,410 to your home’s resale value.

Why Do Refinished Floors Attract Buyers?

Refinished floors attract buyers because they make a positive first impression. They set the stage for the rest of the home, signaling to the buyer that the property has been well-maintained and cared for.

Additionally, prospective buyers appreciate refinished floors because they won’t need to make immediate upgrades or repairs. This turn-key appeal is important in today’s competitive market, where buyers are looking for homes that require minimal work before moving in.

Long-Term Advantages of Floor Refinishing for Homeowners

Refinishing hardwood floors offers several long-term benefits for homeowners in Atlanta, GA. Here’s a deeper look at these advantages:

  • Enhanced Durability and Lifespan: Refinishing adds a protective layer to your hardwood floors, which shields them from everyday wear and tear and protects them from scratches, dents, and spills. As a result, homeowners can avoid the need for costly replacements and repairs.
  • Environmental Benefits: By choosing to refinish, you contribute to reducing waste and minimizing the demand for new materials. This makes it a more sustainable choice that aligns with environmentally conscious homeownership.
  • Health Benefits: Old finishes and worn floors can harbor dust, allergens, and harmful chemicals. Refinishing eliminates these hazards by stripping away the old finish and sealing the wood with a fresh coat, creating a healthier environment for you and your family.

East Atlanta & Duluth Owner

I spent most of my professional career as an I.T. Professional Services Program Manager. I have worked for many great companies such as IBM, Cisco, The Home Depot, Synamedia and BetterCloud to name a few. After my wife was brave enough to make a career change from Corporate Accounting to an AMI Certified Montessori Teacher (and loves it!), I decided that it was time for me to make a change as well. I have always been an active DIY'r and HGTV junkie and felt that I missed my true calling for construction management. After searching for several years, I decided to make a career change and opened my Footprints Floors franchise in 2021. I really enjoy helping my customers complete their projects to improve on their most important asset; their home. I believe that all customers deserve an honest, reputable and fair contractor that will aspire to deliver 5 star results. Those are the principles that guide me daily.

I have a wonderful wife, 2 young adult children, 2 cats, a sassy Husky and have resided in the Atlanta Metro area for the past 18 years. I am an avid runner and also love to roller skate, hike, kayak and play in the dirt.
