Premier Kansas City Stone Installation From Top Industry Professionals

Stone flooring is a natural material that can add elegance and sophistication to your home. However, it is also tough to install correctly because of the many variables involved in laying stone floors.

When choosing a stone for your floor, knowing what you're getting into when installing the product yourself is essential. Stone floors have varying degrees of hardness that require various tools and techniques during installation. If you’re looking for professional stone floor installation in Kansas City, Footprints Floors has what you need. Our expert flooring installers will also take care of prep and cleanup to provide your home with beautiful new stone floors!

What is Stone Flooring?

Stone flooring may be a good choice for those who prefer an earthy feel. One can choose from many stone flooring types, including limestone, travertine, granite, marble and slate. The characteristics of those options will vary with each choice.

Limestone

Limestone flooring is a type of stone flooring that can be found in many modern-day residences. This type of stone flooring is not only popular, but also has many benefits. Limestone floors are one of the most durable types of materials due to their tough and heavy characteristics.

Limestone floors can hold up against scratches and spills, which means they do not need to be refinished as often as other materials.

Travertine

Travertine flooring is made of limestone that has been compacted and cemented together. Travertine comes in various colors, from tan, to brown, to black, each with unique characteristics.

Travertine can be challenging to install on your own due to the weight of the stone and the fact that it may not adhere if not correctly pressed down onto a surface. Travertine flooring will have a natural feel, as all the color variations come from natural impurities in the stone's formation.

Granite

Granite is an igneous rock that has formed over millions of years by the cooling and solidifying magma below Earth's surface. It is one of the hardest natural materials known to man. Granite's physical characteristics make it preferable for flooring as it has a uniform grain and texture, making each slab naturally easy to split into slabs.

The uniformity of granite also means that there are rarely any surprises with the final product because every piece will look similar to its neighbors.

Granite flooring is resistant to heat, water, scratches and stains, making it great for kitchens and bathrooms where spills are common. It is also very durable, so the stone can be used in areas with heavy traffic such as hallways or foyers without wearing down or becoming damaged easily. The surface of granite has a low porosity which makes it resistant to dirt buildup.

Marble

Marble is a metamorphic rock of mineral aggregate, with variable hardness and a high natural polish. It can be used as a cheaper alternative to granite flooring.

Marble slabs are generally more economical than granite slabs. Although marble slabs have a glossy appearance, they may have a slight sheen or texture that makes them less desirable for high-traffic areas at first glance. Still, marble slabs offer many of the same benefits as granite slabs with less expense involved.

Slate

Slate flooring is a type of stone that is found in metamorphic rocks. Slate is mined from the earth and then worked to create versatile flooring options for different applications. Slate can be polished to have a high sheen, matte finish — or somewhere in between. There are also textured slates available for those who want a more rustic look without the additional cost of installation.

What Rooms in Your Home are Appropriate for
Stone Flooring?

Stone flooring will add an organic touch to a room and also give off a feeling of luxury and wealth. Stone floors may be ideal for living rooms, studies or dining rooms, but they can be used in foyers and hallways as well. The material is heavy and durable, suitable for any high-traffic area that may get lots of wear and tear.

How to Install
Stone Flooring

Stone floor installation should be professionally completed by a Footprints Floors specialist, as it can be difficult without the proper equipment and experience.

For the best results, the stone should be installed over plywood or concrete for stability and ease of installation. The type of adhesive used will depend on what type of stone flooring is being installed and the desired result.

Stone Flooring
Cleaning and Maintenance

Stone floors may be susceptible to scratches, chemicals and oils, which can leave residue behind, so special care must be taken when spills occur. Spills should be cleaned up quickly to avoid leaving an unsightly mark on the floor. It is recommended that professional cleaning and polishing the stone be done every six months and after any spills to keep it looking shiny and new. Stone floors can last up to 30 years before needing an update.

Stone flooring is a unique choice for those who want a strong, organic element in their home or office space. Proper installation is vital to the longevity of the product and should be performed by a professional, like those at Footprints Floors.

What Our Customers Say

Highly recommend Footprints for your flooring needs! Dan and the team were professional, efficient and took care to get the job done the right way. And to add, they were very tolerant & respectful of my over-anxious puppy dog!

Absolutely the BEST! After a long time comparing flooring materials and choosing solid hardwood, it was time to find the right installer. Footprints Floors had so many 5-star reviews that we were actually suspicious - but they've earned those reviews. From the first measuring/estimate meeting, to the scheduling and preparation and acclimating, to removing all of the old carpet and wood and installing our new floors, Footprints was terrific. Dan and his team are great to work with, delivering on everything they promised, communicating and keeping us informed, and tending to every detail. The service was exceptional, with the old floors ripped out and new ones professionally installed in less than a week. Plus, they paid attention to detail, including replacing the trim work, moving all of our furniture and appliances with care, eliminating 100% of the annoying floor squeaks that we had been enduring for years, and cleaning up after they were done. We can honestly say that we wouldn't have changed a thing about this experience: The service was impeccable, the people are friendly, competent and professional, the price was very competitive, and our new floors look beautiful. We'll certainly be back when it's time for more floor work - because Footprints Floors really is just that good!

Dan, Jonathan & the entire footprints floors team, were wonderful to work with. They were professional, kind, knowledgeable & easy to communicate with. We were very comfortable having them work in our home. The work the team did was exemplary. We’ve had people comment that they were artisans, because the work they did adding new hardwoods to our home & then tying them into our old ones was so seamless. I am ecstatic about the work that was completed in our home by Footprints Floors! I wish I could give them more than a five star review. I highly recommend this company to anyone considering either refinishing their current hardwoods, or adding hardwoods to their home. It was a pleasure doing business with them!

We are very pleased with the care Footprints took with refinishing all of the wood floors in our 100 yo home. They communicated and managed our complex, multi-day project well. During their work, we discovered numerous parts of the floor needed to be replaced. Footprints' lead, Leo, made sure his team did an excellent job. Footprints also worked with us to use a base shoe that matches the original base shoe of our home, and it looks so nice with the newly refinished floors. We highly recommend Footprints.

Jonathan and Juan were great to work with and did an excellent job installing tile on our fireplace surround. Meticulous and fast. Can't recommend this company enough. Dan, the owner took this job on when others had told us it couldn't be done. Thanks to all of you!

I hired Footprints to retile my fireplace hearth. I can't recommend Dan and Footprints enough. They were timely, friendly, cleaned up after themselves and communicated well the whole time. Additionally, the quality they delivered was beyond expectation. I would not hesitate to work with them again.

Natalie Suttmoeller 08/3/24 — google
These guys did a phenomenal job tiling my entire basement. They were communicative throughout the entire project keeping me posted on progress and updating me along the way. They were transparent with the pricing and my options and were flexible to help keep things moving forward. I was traveling for two weeks out of the country and trusted them to come and go from my home and they took pics to send me and of course updated me frequently. Highly recommend!

We absolutely love our refinished hardwood floors! Dan did an excellent job with answering all our questions before the project was started. Any time I contacted him, he always returned my calls and answered my texts right away. Jonathan, our project manager, always texted us to provide updates as the work progressed. Leo and his crew worked hard to complete the process in a timely manner. We also had Footprints Floors install porcelain tile in our laundry room and an upstairs bathroom. Juan did an excellent job and is a true professional! We are so pleased with how the tile floors look in both rooms! We would definitely use Footprints Floors for any future work. Everyone we encountered was friendly, professional, and so helpful with everything we asked them to do!
Jeanne Stannard 07/20/24 — google
I had Footprints Floors give me a bid on hard wood throughout my house. They did a great job. I received a high quality product which was installed by superior craftsmen. Dan, the owner of Footprints Floors , was communicative and involved during the process. The new floors are beautiful! I can honestly say that I received what I expected and more. I am very happy. I highly recommend Footprints Floors! Give them a call .

Great results! Dan. Jonathan. Leo did a great job of communicating with us. Leo went out of his way to make sure I was happy with every move from sanding to stain.
Diane Foster 07/19/24 — google
Jonathan, Juan, and the Footprints crew did an outstanding job of replacing the tile on our front entryway. My father, who had a long career biding construction jobs, had estimated what the job would cost. We were pleasantly surprised when the bid came in several hundred dollars lower than our expected cost. Several of our neighbors have already been over and told us how great the new tile looks!
Marc Hill 07/18/24 — google
Responsive! Dan came in, looked at what I was trying to accomplish and found solutions! His workers were excellent.

I’ll start by saying that I’m very happy with our new floors and would hire Footprint Floors again in the future. Cons: Initially I was going to give 4 out of 5 stars for two reasons. 1) I think having some reviews that are not perfect is helpful. Too many 100% 5 star reviews can look fake. After the job was completed and I did a walkthrough with Jonathan he asked if I was willing to review them on google and later texted me a link to make reviewing easier. I doubt if there was tension or any sense of dissatisfaction he would not have offered that. This is slightly manipulating the reviews they get on google but it is also the game business have to play in the age of internet marketing. 2) The first coat of hardwood finish was applied a day earlier than expected. This normally wouldn’t be a problem but it was applied very late in the evening and we returned to the house after dinner to find out that we couldn’t stay the night there as we had planned. More of a heads up about this would be appreciated. Pros (Great Service!): Having a project manager who introduced himself at the start of the project, was very helpful. Jonathan shared his phone number and email so we could ask questions about the project whenever we had them. We did have a few issues that came up as things often do during construction. What sets Footprint Floors apart is how they handled these situations. How you fix mistakes is more important to me than avoiding them. 1) During our initial quote there was a misunderstanding about the type of vent covers we wanted. The order had “Drop-In” vents while we wanted “Flush” vents. This was probably a terminology mistake on the part of my Wife and I. But after the first day of construction I noticed the mistake. Jonathan had the team come back to the house to do additional work to install the flush vent covers. This was needed so we wouldn’t get behind on schedule. There was no finger pointing about the mistake, or adjustments to the budget for the correction. 2) After Completing work we found a few cracked floor tiles in our bathroom on the edge of the hardwood floor. Footprint floors came back a few days later to replace the broken tiles and it looks good as new again. 3) Two weeks after work was completed and paid for, we noticed a board in the middle of our living room starting to swell up on the edges. (looked almost like water damage). We reached out and they scheduled someone to come out the next morning to fix it up at no additional cost. Leo (the person doing the repair) told us that it was likely a bad board. Photos - Living Room (After all flooring complete) - Living Room (After new boards installed before sanding/finish) - Broken bathroom tiles (before fix) - Repaired living room floor (after repair, still drying, actual damaged area was about 12 inches long. It is slightly darker in the middle of the taped area)
