Laminate flooring is a man-made material often composed of a plastic or wood core and a surface layer that resembles metal, wood, stone, ceramic tiles or any other hard type of surface.
The laminate was created in the 1950s for commercial buildings because it was less expensive than natural materials. They have been around for years but have recently gained popularity among homeowners because they are less costly and easy to maintain.

Laminate flooring is a good option for many homeowners because it can be installed regardless of the layout style. It can be installed over existing flooring or laid from scratch to create new flooring. Most laminate floors come in one piece with adhesive backing, which gives you the freedom to place them in any room. It can also be cut to fit around objects, doorways and staircases with ease. How Should You Care for Laminate?

Also, avoid using abrasives like steel wool or scouring pads on laminate floors because they can scratch the surface. Using a soft cloth and warm water for cleaning is ideal.

Imagine buying a nearly $1M house and the discovering when moving in that there are big scratches in the wood flooring from furniture being moved out and dull shadows where large area rugs had been. Called Footprints hoping for expert flooring advice and options to restore the wood finish. Mark carefully evaluated the problems and explained that due to the ridges in the hand scraped flooring, that screening or buffing were not options since the flooring was not smooth and flat. Even though Footprints could not provide restoration services, Mark spent several minutes with me discussing DYI cleaning and other possible options that might improve the appearance of the flooring. Mark came to our home and not only knew exactly what kind of wood they are, but how they'd been milled originally and everything about preserving this historic wood. We chose Footprints for our project because of their ratings and time in business, and the fact that we were contacted the very night we sent in the request for an estimate. Josh did our estimate. He is very personable and professional, and knowledgeable. His estimate was over $400.00 LESS than the one from Lowe’s. Rhonda installed our glass tile backsplash expertly and efficiently. Extremely little mess was cleaned as she went leaving a workable surface at all times. Our kitchen was left almost cleaner than what she walked into, LOL. Mike came in and quoted us for a refinish. We wanted a certain color that he could easily have just applied, but he counseled us away from that color due to his experience with it. He guided us to a different color and it was such incredible advice. He was very upfront and honest about the system being a "less dust" process instead of a dustless process. I asked him if he could do his best to cover up the rest of the house and he was very cooperative. His competitiors said the system (same system and machines) was dustless and they do not cover anything. Mike and his crew showed up on time and were very good at their job. We misunderstood how long we had to be off the floor before we could walk on it so Mike rearranged his schedule to make sure we could walk on the floor that night when we came home from work and again the next day. They were efficient and repaired a floor that I thought was nearly a loss to a beautiful floor that we are so impressed with. Eric followed up and is going above and beyond to take care of us. I absolutely recommend these guys. Their price was slightly higher than their competitors but they are worth every penny. 5 STARS!

I had a difficult time deciding on a stain. I was trying to achieve a natural raw wood look, and the initial options were not working. Imagine buying a nearly $1M house and the discovering when moving in that there are big scratches in the wood flooring from furniture being moved out and dull shadows where large area rugs had been. Called Footprints hoping for expert flooring advice and options to restore the wood finish. Mark carefully evaluated the problems and explained that due to the ridges in the hand scraped flooring, that screening or buffing were not options since the flooring was not smooth and flat. Even though Footprints could not provide restoration services, Mark spent several minutes with me discussing DYI cleaning and other possible options that might improve the appearance of the flooring.
